A few questions for you...
Did you highlight heavy red areas or the brown of the belt of the gun? Also, did you varnish the model before or after the oil was?

Yes, they are highlighted. The red areas are brown in the darkest points.

I varnish the model before and after washing. On my models there are about 4-6 coats of varnish applied between layers of paint
